  • Focus on each task separately.

One of the worst things you can do when you struggle with time management is to get distracted; if you know your schedule is busy, then try organizing something different for each day, and avoid overcrowding your own planner. When you know something can be dealt with another day, then set it for that day; while procrastinating or pushing deadlines further won’t help, dealing with too many issues at once can also result in frustration. For example, you can prepare in advance the week’s menu, so you know each day what you have to cook.   • Separate the personal and the professional.

As difficult as it might be, try not to bring your work problems at home; this means not only avoiding to deal with career problems at home, but avoiding to think about them as well, because they will prevent you from dealing with other issues that concern the home. When you are at home, you need to pay attention to your children and see which matters need resolve around the house. By being focused on what matters when it matters, you should be able to finish things ahead and find at least a half an hour for yourself. A simple advice which, although might be interpreted as renouncing some pleasures, is to look for the best short haircuts and adopt one that suits you; that way, you’ll spend less time caring for it in front of the mirror and will be able to focus on things that really matter to you.   • Don’t multitask and set reasonable goals.

You should be able to tell by know the amount of work you can get done in a day; indeed, some days are unpredictable, but you need to avoid multi-tasking, especially if it involves physical activity, because it can result in disaster. Then, you become frustrated that things didn’t work out as you planned them, and the whole day is turned upside down. Time management doesn’t work that way; there needs to be an order of things, even though it may not be strict. Try educating yourself into achieving something every day, but without putting pressure to exceed your limits.

As you can see, time management for the working mom can be really effective, and you should try it for at least a week to see whether things aren’t improved for you. Thus, you will be able to deal with home and career issues and live a fulfilled life with your family.
